The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) is an arms-length, not-for-profit funding organization that solicits and distributes funds geared toward the development and sustainability of local community radio broadcasting in urban and ruralCanada. It provides the campus and community sector with the necessary resources to continue to provide local programming and community access, as well as to develop and enrich this vital component of the Canadian broadcasting system.
CRFC had an outdated site and wished to develop a new site integrated within aCMSso the budget minded organization could easily maintain the site on an on-going basis. As part of the design, they wished to have a logo developed for the organization.
The client’s requirements included:
- New Logo
- New Bilingual website integrated within aCMS
- Search function
- “A rotating feature section (photo and short description on a successful grant; includes funder logo, name, stats; changes on load/reload).”
The first step was to develop a logo and finalize corporate colours for the organization. An on-site meeting was held with CRFC and a volunteer designer. At the creative brainstorming session several concepts were developed and sketched out for further refinement. Our designer developed 4 concepts and presented for review. Through consultation with the client, the logos were revised and one was approved.
With the logo approved and corporate colours finalized, we were ready to begin on the site design. Two initial samples were provided and refined with client feedback and direction.
The completed design included a random banner for the client to deliver unique messages to site visitors, a search button, expanded navigation on the left side, intuitive buttons to print the page or resize font.
To meet a tight budget, MarketAccess proposed involving CFRC during implementation. With the design complete and templates created, MarketAccess created a site skeleton and integrated 35 pages of English content and the French menu structure. A teleconference was held to provide Joomla training and the client implemented the remaining content.
As part of the Joomla set up, we installed a bilingual component, an improved SYSIWYG editor and Word Paste component to ensure in-house staff could easily maintain the site on an on-going basis.
CRFC wished to host with an external company. At the completion of the project, MarketAccess transferred the site to the hosting company. Initially the site didn’t function as intended due to the server environment and we provided guidance to resolve the issue
The client was extremely satisfied with the completed solution and has been able to completely maintain the site without the use of outside contractors.
