The Government of Canada is committed to improving Canada’s innovation
performance. The Red Book and Speech From the Throne (January 30, 2001) clearly
communicated the Government’s objective: Canada must be recognized as
one of the most innovative countries in the world.
In support of the Government’s innovation mandate, Industry
Canada will be developing an innovation portal. The portal is targeted to SMEs, MPs, youth and others interested in improving productivity. The portal will :
- Clearly demonstrate Canada’s commitment to creating a culture of innovation
and knowledge
- Encourage provinces, private sector and research institutions to work together to improve Canada’s innovation performance
- Raise Canadian’s awareness of the importance of knowledge and innovation
- Provide links to innovation information provided by the Government of Canada
- Be viewed as being relevant and resourceful by the target market
MarketAccess was honoured to be selected to provide the vision and site architecture documents. These core documents provide the foundation for the site and will ensure its success.
MarketAccess met with key staff, completed research, and reviewed client provided material to develop a vision document detailing the suite of potential on-line technologies in support of Canada’s efforts to become one of the top 5 countries in the world in terms of technology.
The vision document discussed the tools and suggested approaches for engaging
Canadians in a dialogue and facilitating partnerships. Short and long term suggestions
were provided. In addition, a timeline was included illustrating the flow of new features and interdependencies among tasks. Budget information was estimated to allow for detailed planning as part of Phase II. The vision document provided technical considerations and detailed server environment, platform, standards and coding language.
The site architecture detailed the organization of information. The objective
of the architecture is to develop a structure providing quick and easy access to relevant information. Two architectures were developed for the Portal: one for the short term and one for the long term. In addition, personalization features were proposed to allow the user to create a site tailored to their needs.
The client was extremely pleased with the completed documents and immediately implemented some of the recommendations within the interim Innovation site. |
